The ProjectStory
This midcentury modern kitchen is ready for the 21st century with an extended wall of professional appliances, sleek countertops, and a new peninsula for eating and entertaining. The living/dining room was mostly unused, containing an unattractive fireplace and vinyl paneling. We shifted the dining table into the existing living room and stretched the cabinetry all the way through the original dining space, doubling the size of the kitchen.
The walk-in pantry, with its gliding door, was created by closing off a back door and hall. The family room was laid out with new furniture and carpeting, the laundry room was refreshed, and the fireplace wall was newly tiled. Most importantly, the kitchen functions far better with defined zones for prep — including a second sink — dishwasher, refrigerator, and freezer.
The primary bathroom was remodeled as well, with a new vanity and a large shower with a built-in seat carved out of the adjacent closet. Phase II — an office space, exercise room, and two additional baths — was recently completed.
